Is the EAP really free?
Employees and family members (living with the employee) never
pay for EAP services. The employer pays a capitated rate, a
lump sum, based on the number of employees in the organization. This
rate usually includes services to the organization as well.

Is the EAP confidential?
Yes. Information about an employee's or family member's contact
with the EAP can only be disclosed with their written permission. The
EAP may only disclose information without consent when required to by law.

How many times can I see my EAP consultant?
The number of consultation sessions available to employees and family members is
different from employer to employer. Most of our EAP contracts provide
up to 6 sessions, some as few as 3 and some as many as 8. We are specialists
in brief, solution-focused consultation and many problems can be resolved in 1-3 sessions.

What if I've used up my sessions and a new problem comes up?
The number of sessions available is per problem, per problem-year. The problem-year starts
with your first visit to us with a particular problem (not on January 1st). If a new,
completely different problem comes up, you start a new problem-year, with new sessions available.

Can I keep seeing my consultant after I've used up my sessions?
No. We at The Solutions Group are EAP specialists. We see the value of having a
limited number of sessions providing extra motivation to make changes. EAP consultation
is not meant to be mental health treatment. If longer term treatment is necessary, we
will refer you to an appropriate resource as early in the consultation process as
possible. Longer term resources may be covered by your insurance benefit or may
be community resources with low to no cost.

Is my supervisor punishing me by telling me to go to the EAP?
No. A supervisor's referral to the EAP is a way of holding out
a helping hand to someone struggling with work performance. Your
EAP consultant can help you learn to be happier at home and at work.

I'm not crazy! Why should I go see a shrink?
While EAP consultants at The Solutions Group are licensed behavioral health
professionals, we don't call ourselves psychotherapists or counselors. We
are advisors, guides to help you to make your way through
the more difficult parts of life.

I don't believe in counseling so how can the EAP help?
If you are having financial problems and go to a financial consultant, you don't have to
believe in financial planning in order to learn some useful things that can help
you to better manage your money. We're consultants who specialize in helping
people learn ways to solve home and work problems. That's why we're
called The Solutions Group.

How do employees come to the EAP?
Most EAP clients refer themselves to the EAP. They hear about us in
orientation sessions, see our posters around the work place, receive
mailings about us at home, see our magnet on their refrigerator, or
hear about us from co-workers or family members. Some employees
are more formally referred by supervisors or HR.

How do I formally refer an employee to the EAP?
Your organization will need to decide whether referrals can be made by any
supervisor or only through HR. After that, the formal referral process is simple:
- Call The Solutions Group
- Speak with an EAP Consultant
- Give work performance information to the Consultant
- Set up an appointment time for the employee
- Give the employee the appointment time
- The consultant, with the employees permission, will call you back after the session.

What information will I get about the employee I referred?
We will ask the employee to sign an authorization to release
information. This release will cover attendance at appointments,
what future appointments are scheduled, whether the employee is
compliant with recommendations and whether the employee
has made progress.
